Build your own English vocabulary bank

Hi, I'm Johanna.

I'm an English and Social Studies teacher, and I work closely with ESL students. Over the years, I have seen many students work hard to learn English, but vocabulary often becomes one of the biggest challenges.

Students usually meet new words while reading, doing homework, or preparing for tests. They write those words on worksheets, notebooks, sticky notes, or beside the articles they are reading. But after a while, those notes often get lost, forgotten, or left behind. The words they once tried hard to learn slowly disappear from memory.

That is why I created VocabFolio.

I wanted to build a simple and useful space where students could keep all their vocabulary in one place. With VocabFolio, learners can look up new words, save meanings, and build their own personal English dictionary. Each word comes from their own learning journey, so their word bank becomes more meaningful and easier to review.

Students can also use flashcards and quizzes to review what they have learned. Instead of writing down words once and forgetting them, they can return to their word bank again and again.

As a teacher, I also know how much time it takes to prepare vocabulary review sheets, create quizzes, and check students' progress. That is why I added teacher-focused tools to the Premium version of VocabFolio. These features are designed to help teachers create vocabulary practice more efficiently and support students with clearer learning progress.

The idea for this app came from real classroom moments. It came from watching my students struggle, listening to what they needed, and thinking about what would make vocabulary learning easier for both learners and teachers.
